About Alseyon

Alseyon is a web site devoted to mediumship and spirituality. Mediumship is the ability to communicate with spirits (i.e. those who have passed away, “died”). Spirituality involves many things, many/most of which are not religion.

You will find some religion here, but it’s non-traditional. The site is non-Christian in orientation, with a moderate focus on Spiritualism. Spiritualism is a religion of conviction, not conversion, so there is no effort to convert you. On the contrary, healthy skepticism is encouraged. And unlike most other religions, it does not define God, nor does it force you to believe anything. I can imagine you saying “that’s weird”. But in practice, it works.

The early days with the Spiritualist Religion Page

After learning about Spiritualism in the early 90’s, I wrote an introductory book on it called Spiritualist Basics. I also created some other documents that answer a lot of the basic questions and concerns that people have around it as well. One of my biggest concerns was that people misunderstand Spiritualism and mistakenly conclude that it’s evil or of the Devil. The web was new at the time, and I decided that I would put it on a site so that it could reach people. The site was called The Spiritualist Religion Page. Feedback was very positive, from all kinds of folks, including Spiritualist ministers. From time to time, visitors came to ask questions about Spiritualism and related topics, which is great, because I enjoy helping people.

The Spiritualist Religion Page website was first published in 1997 and was in place for 11 years. During that time, I wrote a book, then another, then part of another, and then combined it all together into one. I thought about publishing it, and then realized that publishing involved a number of other things I wasn’t ready for, including starting a business, marketing, and the like.

In 2008, I took an initial step by creating a new web site with its own domain name, Alseyon.com. I also created a blog, joesblog.alseyon.com. The two sites remained separate but interrelated until 2015, when I revamped both of them into a single site. The new site went live on March 31, 2015.

I designed the new site as a social and discussion oriented site. While I learned a lot about WordPress while doing it, building the site was exhausting. It left me without the energy to put into marketing it and the book(s) I was working on. As I was gathering my energy to go into marketing it all, my art interest suddenly sprang to life. I had been painting for several years as it was, but I found my style, and my work looked salable! So my interests changed. But I didn’t abandon writing about spirituality completely. I discovered that Quora had lots of people asking questions about spirituality and mediumship that I could answer. So I picked up the habit of spending some time every now and then writing there.

In February of 2019, I needed to make changes to my web hosting for my art site, which affected Alseyon as well. I decided to take Alseyon down, then thought better of it, as described in this post. Moving the site also caused me to redesign it, as the social implementation never worked out. The 2019 site is a condensed and collapsed version of the social one, and has all of the blog entries as well. Spirituality is timeless, so it’s worth keeping such info for people to read and learn more.
